This week is Trustees’ Week – a national spotlight on trustees and the hugely important work they do for charities such as Saint Catherine’s.
Trustees are the people in charge of a charity. They play a vital role, volunteering their time and working together to make important decisions about the charity’s work.
Meet Margaret and John (pictured) – two of our brilliant trustees.
Margaret, who is chairman of the board, said: “What I enjoy most about the role is seeing the dedication and commitment of the staff and volunteers and hearing from patients and families about their appreciation of the work that Saint Catherine’s does and the difference it makes to their lives. It is amazing and very humbling to be part of such an incredible organisation.”
John, a trustee and member of the board of directors, said: “The role involves understanding what a hospice provides in the community, supporting the staff and volunteers, attending management meetings, chairing committees and meeting many business supporters. I really enjoy meeting staff and volunteers, and seeing the help and support the hospice provides to its many patients and visitors.”
Thank you to all of our trustees for giving your time freely to support the work of Saint Catherine’s.
COULD YOU BE A TRUSTEE?
Saint Catherine’s greatly values the skills and abilities of its Board of Trustees, who are the governing body for the charity. Our Trustees volunteer with us and bring their specific experience from a range of backgrounds from clinical, medical, retail, commercial and private companies, who are passionate about the care and support Saint Catherine’s provides.
Their contribution is vital to how we operate Saint Catherine’s now and for the future. If you are passionate about the work Saint Catherine’s does, supporting and caring for patients and their families and might be interested in and becoming a trustee and being part of our Board of Trustees, then we would love to hear from you. Currently we would particularly welcome new members from a business background.
As a trustee there are four board meetings a year and in addition membership of one Board Committee, which also meets four times a year. We also have an annual ‘away day’ as a board with the Executive Team. Meetings tend to last around one to two hours.
If you are interested and would like to know more, and visit the Hospice, please contact Mike Wilkerson, chief executive, on 01723 351421. Thank you!
