A full day of care at Saint Catherine’s has been sponsored by the family of Jenny Rooke, of Beadlam Grange, on December 18 – what would have been Jenny’s 63rd birthday.
Jenny was cared for at Saint Catherine’s earlier this year and died in February following a short battle with cancer.
Her family have been fundraising ever since and the incredible total currently stands at over £15,500.
It costs £10,000 a day to provide all of Saint Catherine’s specialist services, both at the hospice in the Scarborough and out in the community across Ryedale, Whitby, Bridlington and Driffield.
Jenny’s husband Mark, her brother Phil, father Brian, daughter Helen and son-in-law Mark were given a tour of the hospice and met with members of staff from across the organisation, including chief executive Mike Wilkerson. They were also reunited with some of the nursing staff who looked after Jenny.
Mark said: “We have been blessed with kindness, love and care from Saint Catherine’s. It’s just wonderful to be able to come back here and to help in this way. This will be my life now – supporting Saint Catherine’s.” Mike Wilkerson said: “On behalf of all of us at Saint Catherine’s, I would like to thank Mark and his family for their amazing support. We cannot express enough to the family how much their efforts mean to all those we care for. They have worked tirelessly to raise money in support of patient care and Mark tells me they will continue to do so. It was a pleasure to spend time with them as a family.”
