Wishing Well Appeal

The Brunswick Shopping Centre has launched a festive appeal to raise £3,000 for Saint Catherine’s in time for Christmas.

The centre’s Wishing Well, which has raised £2,000 for the charity since it was installed in July, has been decorated for Christmas and continues to help support patient care.

Now, Brunswick Centre manager Sue Anderson Brown is appealing to kind–hearted to shoppers to dig deep, leave a donation at the Wishing Well and help give the gift of care this Christmas.

Sue said: “We are thrilled that the Wishing Well been such a success so far – but we think that with the generosity of our local community, we can make a final push before Christmas and get that total up to the magic figure of £3,000.

“Every donation makes such a difference, so let’s see if together we can make wishes come true for Saint Catherine’s this Christmas.”

The Wishing Well can be found on the lower mall of the shopping centre, next to the upwards escalator.

Every £20 raised could pay for an in-patient’s meals and refreshments on Christmas Day.

The £3,000 target figure could pay for:

• 60 visits by the Hospice at Home team to care for patients in their own homes
• Or 15 patients to attend Saint Catherine’s Wellbeing Centre for one day
• Or six patients to stay overnight in the in-patient unit this Christmas.

Susan Stephenson, communications and marketing manager at Saint Catherine’s, said: “We would like to thank the Brunswick Shopping Centre for their wonderful support.

“The Wishing Well continues to go from strength to strength, and we hope this appeal will inspire people to support their local hospice and give a very special gift this Christmas.”

The hand-made wishing well was built from scratch by students at Scarborough Construction Skills Village in Middle Deepdale, Eastfield, who are aged from 16 to 35.

The project came about thanks to partnership working between Scarborough Construction Skills Village, the Brunswick Shopping Centre and Saint Catherine’s, supported by West Building Supplies Ltd, Flixton Sawmill, Signs Express, Dunelm and Calverts Carpets who all kindly donated materials.
